COMMUNITY POLICING

Posted on February 16, 2012 by anne
Hello again everyone,

I hope that 6 weeks into 2012 (Olympic year) you are still managing to stick to your New Year resolutions.

Keep up the fitness training, I know it’s hard, but coupled with less smoking and drinking you’ll be feeling much better soon! Honest!

Left-over turkey and Christmas pud have just disappeared off the menu, thank goodness, but Easter eggs will soon be in the shops. More temptation!

Onto more serious matters, it would seem that our graffiti artist (I use the term very loosely) is back, or maybe it’s their protégé. Either way, a conviction for criminal damage won’t look good on their CV when it comes to getting a job! Please keep an eye out for suspicious youths with aerosols and let me know if you see anyone, a name and address would be even better. Someone must know who is ruining the look of the neighbourhood and causing our ‘graffiti volunteers’ more work. Don’t be shy, ‘shop them’ and I will do my bit to ensure they don’t do it again.

On that subject, If anyone else wants to step forward as a ‘graffiti volunteer’ please make yourself known. A short training course by the council and a graffiti kit, and you too, along with the other volunteers, could help to keep your neighbourhood looking a smarter, more attractive place to live.

We were however hit by a spate of thefts from cars at Down Grange sports complex recently. It was one of a number of locations in and around Basingstoke town hit on the same night, probably by the same people, where a number of cars in car parks were broken into and laptops, phones, wallets and cash were taken.

You may recall my last article which encouraged people ‘NOT TO LEAVE ANY VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR’. There you are, I’ve said it again! PLEASE take heed as these cars were deliberately targeted over others with no property on show.

Notwithstanding the above, crime and anti-social behaviour have again remained low this last month. Kempshott remains one of the safest areas in Basingstoke, relax and enjoy living here. If you don’t yet know your neighbours, please take the time to introduce yourself and look out for each other. Better still, come along to our Neighbourhood Watch meeting at Kempshott Village Hall at 8pm on 30th January and maybe consider becoming a co-coordinator for your area.

Finally, I’d like to thank everyone who has gone out of their way to engage with me over the last few months and help me integrate into the community. I am really beginning to feel at home patrolling Kempshott now, and you can always be sure I will do my best to help you in any way I can, even if its not directly a Police related matter.

Best wishes
